The most frequently performed action in football is passing. A professional player makes an average of 40-60 passes per game. Improving passing accuracy means improving the entire team's play.
Types of Passes
1. Inside foot pass: The most commonly used and most accurate type of pass. The ball is struck with the inside part of the foot. Ideal for short and medium distances.
2. Outside foot pass: Using the outside part of the foot. Used to deceive opponents and pass in unexpected directions. Ronaldinho was a master of this technique.
3. Instep pass: A powerful and accurate long-distance pass. Used for long balls from the goalkeeper to the striker.
4. Chip pass: Lifting the ball over an opponent. The strike hits the bottom part of the ball. Ideal for through balls.
5. Backheel pass: A pass backward using the heel. Unexpected and beautiful, but also risky โ use only in confident situations.
Through ball
This is the most difficult and effective type of pass. The ball is passed deep behind the opponent's defense to a teammate. This requires: anticipating your teammate's run, knowing the position of the opposing defender, and applying the correct power and direction.
Training method: two players run parallel, while a third passes deep between them. Cones are used to simulate 'defenders'.
One-touch passing
Fast play is crucial in professional football. Passing the ball with one touch (one-touch) is the basis of fast team play. Training method: standing in a circle and exchanging passes with one touch (rondo). Do this for 10 minutes during every training session.
Exercises to improve passing accuracy
Pass against a wall from various distances: 5m, 10m, 15m. 20 times at each distance. Hit the target accurately โ draw a 50x50 cm mark on the wall. This simple exercise significantly increases passing accuracy.
