The FIFA 11+ Prevention Program

The '11+' program developed by FIFA has been proven to reduce knee injuries by 30-50%. This is a 20-minute warm-up routine that includes the following exercises:

1. Running drills: Straight running, side shuffling, backward running β€” 8 minutes.

2. Strength and balance: Single-leg standing, squats, lunges, planks β€” 10 minutes.

3. Speed drills: Sprints, sudden stops, zigzag running β€” 2 minutes.

Muscle Balance

One of the main causes of knee injury is an imbalance between the front and back thigh muscles. Many football players have strong quadriceps but weak hamstrings. This puts improper stress on the knee.

Hamstring exercises: The Nordic Hamstring Curl is the most effective preventive exercise. Kneel down and slowly lower your body forward. This exercise has been proven to reduce the risk of ACL injury by 51%.

Proper Footwear

Incorrect footwear increases the risk of knee injury. For artificial turf, boots with AG (artificial ground) soles should be used β€” standard FG (firm ground) soles grip artificial grass too tightly, putting excessive load on the knee.

Do Not Ignore the Warm-up
