Lower back pain is one of the most common problems among football players. According to research, 30-40 percent of professional footballers suffer from lower back pain during their careers. This figure is even higher among amateur players.
Causes of Lower Back Pain
1. Muscle Imbalance: The quadriceps are strong, but the lower back and glute muscles are weak. This puts excessive load on the lower back.
2. Poor Posture: Poor standing and sitting habits in daily life affect the lower back during training.
3. Lack of Stretching: If the hamstrings and hip joints are stiff, compensation occurs through the lower back.
4. Striking Technique: Incorrect striking technique puts excessive rotational force on the lower back.
5. Overload: Excessive training and insufficient rest.
Exercises to Strengthen Lower Back Muscles
Plank: 30-60 seconds, 3 sets. Strengthens the entire core muscle system.
Bird Dog: While on all fours, extend the opposite arm and leg. 10 times per side.
Bridge: Lying on your back, lift your hips. 15 times, 3 sets. For glute and lower back muscles.
Dead Bug: Lying on your back, extend the opposite arm and leg. Keep the lower back pressed against the floor. 10 times per side.
Superman: Lying face down, lift arms and legs simultaneously. 10 times, 3 sets.
Prevention
1. Perform lower back warm-up exercises before every training session.
2. Five minutes of core exercises (plank, bridge) daily.
3. Stretching exercises for the hamstrings and hip joints.
4. Pay attention to striking technique β you should strike with the leg/thigh, not the lower back.
