Tactical periodization is a training methodology developed by Vitor Frade, a professor at the University of Porto. Its core idea is that every element of training must be built based on the game model. In other words, physical, technical, and psychological preparation are not taught separately, but together within a tactical context.

Jose Mourinho is the most famous practitioner of tactical periodization. He never has players do "empty running" in training โ€” every exercise simulates a real match situation. Andre Villas-Boas and Marco Silva also apply this methodology. The weekly training cycle: Monday โ€” recovery, Tuesday โ€” tactics with muscular strength, Wednesday โ€” tactics with endurance, Thursday โ€” tactics with speed, Friday โ€” pre-match preparation.

Knowledge about tactical periodization is growing in Uzbekistan. Some coaches have begun applying the principles of the Porto school. This methodology transforms football from a simple "run and kick" into an intellectual game. Ensuring every training session is purposeful and aligned with the game model is the foundation of modern coaching.
