Club Ownership Models: Who Manages a Football Club

Football club ownership models are diverse. Germany's "50+1" rule guarantees the voting rights of fans — at least 51 percent of the club's shares belong to the members. Barcelona and Real Madrid operate under the socios model, meaning members elect the president. This democratic model ensures the club is not dependent on the whims of a single owner.

The private ownership model is also widespread. Sheikh Mansour (Manchester City), Todd Boehly (Chelsea), and Fenway Sports Group (Liverpool) — all of these are private investors. This model allows for attracting large investments, but there is also a risk — if the owner loses interest or faces financial problems, the club suffers.

In Uzbekistan, football clubs are mainly in the hands of the state or large companies. In the future, privatization and increased fan participation are expected. The correct ownership model is the foundation of a club's stable development. Transparency, long-term strategy, and prioritizing team interests are the most important principles.
