Match Fixing: The Darkest Side of Football

Match fixing is one of the most serious problems in football. Criminal groups pay players, referees, or club officials to predetermine the outcome of a game. This is primarily linked to the gambling market — large sums of money are made through accurate predictions. According to Europol data, more than 500 football matches per year are found to be suspicious.

Special systems exist to detect match fixing. Sportradar's Fraud Detection System (FDS) monitors the global betting market in real time. If unusual betting patterns are detected in a game, FIFA and local federations are notified. UEFA also maintains control through its Betting Fraud Detection System (BFDS).

This problem also exists in Uzbek football, and preventive work is being carried out in cooperation with the AFC and FIFA. Special seminars are held for players and referees. The most important thing is to immediately report any suspicious offers. The integrity of football is its greatest value.
