Flexibility is one of the important physical qualities of a football player. Performing correct stretching exercises reduces the risk of injury and increases the amplitude of movement.
Dynamic Stretching (Before the Game)
Dynamic stretching exercises are performed before the game. Leg swings, knee lifts, side steps, and other active movements warm up and prepare the muscles. Each exercise is repeated 10-15 times.
Static Stretching (After the Game)
Static stretching is performed after the game. One should hold each position for 20-30 seconds. Stretching the quadriceps, hamstrings, calves, and lower back muscles are the primary exercises.
Yoga and Pilates
Many professional footballers practice yoga and pilates. These exercises increase not only flexibility but also balance and core muscle strength. A 20-30 minute session 2-3 times a week is sufficient.
Do not ignore stretching exercises โ they will extend your football career.
