Football Architecture: The Evolution of Stadium Design

Stadium architecture has fundamentally changed over the last 30 years. The transition from traditional rectangular stadiums to modern multi-functional arenas is a fusion of technology and design. Firms such as Zaha Hadid Architects and HOK Sport have elevated stadium design to an art form. Al Janoub Stadium (Qatar) is designed in the shape of a dhow boat, while Al Bayt Stadium is shaped like a Bedouin tent. The reconstruction of Santiago Bernabéu — with its retractable roof, 360-degree screen, and underground parking — represents a new standard in football architecture.

In Uzbekistan, stadium infrastructure is being modernized. The construction of a new National Stadium is planned. A modern stadium should be used not only for football but also for concerts, exhibitions, and other events. Architecture must combine the fan experience, safety, and sustainability in one place.
