Football agents are the primary driving force in the world of transfers. In 2023, agents received a total commission of over 800 million dollars. According to FIFA's new regulations, agent commissions should not exceed 10 percent of the transfer amount. Jorge Mendes (who manages Ronaldo) and Mino Raiola (whose heirs are still active) are among the most famous agents.
To become an agent, one must pass the FIFA agent exam. The exam consists of sections on football rules, transfer regulations, contract law, and ethics. The passing rate is only around 30%. Successful agents must have a strong network, know the art of negotiation, and possess the ability to protect the player.
Agency activities are also developing in Uzbekistan. Local agents are working to place Uzbek footballers in foreign clubs. Professionalism in this field is increasing, but there is still much work to be done. In the future, Uzbek agents could occupy an important position in the Asian and European markets.
