The ankle joint is one of the most complex and load-bearing parts of the human body. It not only ensures our balance but also serves as the primary support in all dynamic movements such as walking, running, and jumping. However, due to incorrect loading or weak muscles, this joint is very prone to injury, which may require long-term rehabilitation. The first and most important strategy for preventing injuries is complex strengthening exercises. To strengthen the ligaments and muscles around the ankle joint, it is recommended to perform balance exercises such as using a "balance board" (bosu ball) or standing on one leg. Such exercises develop proprioception—the body's ability to sense its position in space—and increase the joint's resilience during unexpected slips. The second important step is ensuring flexibility. If the ankle joint is stiff, the load shifts to other joints (knee and hip), which can cause other injuries like a chain reaction. Regular stretching of the Achilles tendon and exercises to soften the heel muscles expand the joint's range of motion and reduce the risk of tears or sprains. Additionally, choosing the right footwear is of strategic importance. Shoes that do not fit the shape of the foot or have low cushioning put excessive pressure on the ankle joint. Wearing high-quality footwear chosen according to the type of sport and surface is the simplest way to protect the joint from external impacts. Finally, one must not forget a thorough warm-up process before any physical activity. Improved blood circulation and activation of joint fluid make the tissues elastic. A regular approach focused on strengthening the ankles is a guarantee of healthy movement not only for athletes but for every person active in daily life.
