The knee joint is one of the most complex and load-bearing joints in the human body. It not only ensures mobility but also plays a crucial role in supporting body weight. Ligaments connect bones together, ensuring the stability of the joint. Unfortunately, due to improper loading or negligence, injuries in these areas occur quickly. The first and most important rule for protecting joints is the proper organization of physical activity. Before any exercise or sports activity, it is essential to warm up thoroughly for at least 10-15 minutes. This softens the muscles and increases the elasticity of the ligaments, reducing the risk of tears or strains. Additionally, for athletes, choosing quality footwear that matches their weight and type of activity is very important. Weight control is a key factor in knee joint health. Excess weight puts additional pressure on the joints with every step, which leads to the rapid wearing down of the cartilage layer (arthrosis). By maintaining a healthy weight, we extend the service life of our joints. Proper nutrition and hydration are also of great importance. For joint lubrication and ligament strength, the body needs sufficient amounts of water, Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil), collagen, and vitamins (especially Vitamin C and D). Antioxidants found in fruits, nuts, and vegetables help reduce inflammatory processes in the joints. Finally, do not forget to maintain correct posture and strengthen your muscles. The stronger the quadriceps and hamstring muscles around the knee, the less load is placed on the ligaments. If you notice swelling, pain, or "clicking" sounds in your knees, it is recommended to consult a specialist immediately. Remember, prevention is always easier and cheaper than treatment. The small habits you attend to today will allow you to move freely and without pain in the future.
