Engaging in sports is beneficial for everyone, but the physiological characteristics of injuries in women's sports differ significantly from those in men's. The anatomical and hormonal structure of the female body increases susceptibility to certain types of injuries; therefore, special attention must be paid to prevention strategies.
One of the most fundamental physiological factors is the structure of the pelvis. In girls, the pelvis is wider, which increases the "Q-angle" in the knee joints. As a result, excessive load is placed on the knee ligaments (for example, the anterior cruciate ligament โ ACL), especially during movements such as jumping and landing. This leads to an increase in knee injuries among girls.
Furthermore, hormonal changes, specifically fluctuations in estrogen levels, affect the elasticity of ligaments and tendons. During certain stages of the menstrual cycle, joint instability may increase, which enhances the risk of injury. Additionally, due to decreased bone density and calcium deficiency in girls, "stress fractures" occur, particularly in sports involving running and jumping.
To prevent injuries, the following strategies are recommended:
First, a **strong muscle corset**. To protect the knees and cartilage, it is necessary to strengthen not only the primary muscles but also the stabilizer (core) muscles. Proprioceptive exercises (exercises aimed at maintaining balance) increase the endurance of ligaments.
Second, **correct technique**. Properly learning jumping and landing techniques reduces the impact on the knee joint. The inward collapse of the knees (valgus) must be prevented during exercise.
Third, **rational recovery and nutrition**. To increase the body's regeneration capacity, it is necessary to consume sufficient amounts of calcium, vitamin D, and proteins. Sleep patterns and monitoring hormonal status play an important role in preventing injuries.
In conclusion, to reduce injuries in women's sports, individual training plans adapted to female physiology should be used rather than a general approach. A healthy approach not only preserves the athlete's health but also expands the opportunity to achieve high results.
