The Path to Becoming a Referee

Physical Requirements

A referee runs 10-12 km in one match — sometimes even more than the players. The FIFA refereeing test requires six 40-meter sprints, each under 6 seconds, and a 150-meter interval run.

Mental Strength

A referee must make fast and correct decisions under pressure. Not making a mistake in front of thousands of spectators and millions of television viewers is a huge psychological burden. That is why referees also work with sports psychologists.
