Football Pitch Lighting Systems: LED vs Traditional Lights

Evening football is very popular in Uzbekistan — many games are held after working hours. Therefore, a field lighting system is very important.

Traditional Lights

Metal halide lamps have been considered the standard for many years. They provide good light, but consume a lot of electrical energy, overheat, and have a relatively short lifespan — 6000-15000 hours. Replacing a burnt-out lamp takes time.

LED Lights

LED technology has been a revolution for football pitches. LED lamps consume 50-70% less energy, have a lifespan of up to 50,000 hours, turn on and off instantly, and maintain consistent light quality. They are also ideal for color television broadcasts.

Lighting Standards

200 lux is sufficient for amateur football. Professional games require 500-1500 lux. For television broadcasting, it must be higher than 2000 lux. It is important that the lighting is evenly distributed and does not cause glare.

A well-lit field not only improves the game but also reduces the risk of injury.
